This quilt is a fat quarter friendly project and a great option for showcasing a fabric collection. At quick glance, this quilt looks like it the quilt blocks are set on point. However, an innovative construction technique uses a traditional straight setting to achieve this look. The quilt finishes at 86” X 107” and uses 10.5” blocks in the construction. I think this is going to be one of my favorite quilts to snuggle under this winter.

To get this look, I used the Woolies Flannel fabrics by Bonnie Sullivan for Maywood Studio. I just love this collection. The colors, the textures, the feel, the quality – it is such amazing fabric and so warm! A variety of reds, blues, oranges, greens, teals, and purples combine to create this cozy quilt. The colors pop with a light gray background and a black border.

While I don’t own a long arm machine, I am fortunate to be able to rent time on one at my local quilt shop – The Electric Needle  in Madison, WI.  I did the longarm quilting using Susan Mallett’s Paisley design. This is one of my go-to favorites. The design works well with a wide variety of quilts and provides a beautiful allover design. A gray thread provided nice contrast on the black border while not distracting from the quilt blocks.

I am also excited to share that I have a Warm Woolies quilt kit available which includes the fabric to complete the quilt top and binding. The instructions for the quilt project are featured in the February 2021 issue of American Patchwork & Quilting so a pattern is not included as part of this kit.  A limited number of kits are available starting December 12.
